Ardmore City Manager, JD Spohn to Serve as OML Board President

Oklahoma City, OK - Ardmore City Manager, JD Spohn will serve as President of the Oklahoma Municipal League’s (OML) Board of Directors for the 2020-21 term.

Spohn, who has served as City Manager in Ardmore since 2009, has previously served five years on the OML board, most recently as the Vice President.  Spohn moved to Ardmore in 1998 from Coffeyville, Kansas to assume the position of Fire Chief.  In 2006, the position of Assistant City Manager was added to his job title, and in December 2009, he was appointed City Manager.

Spohn served 4 years in the U.S. Marines (1974-1978) and is a graduate of Leadership Ardmore.  He is an active board member of the Big 5 Community Services and is active in Lions Club.  He has also served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors. Spohn is very active in the community and serves on numerous committees and advisory panels.

Spohn holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Friends University, in Wichita, Kansas and a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Oklahoma.  His wife Mendy is a Regional Administrator for the State Health Department, and they have a 10-year old daughter Ally.

Spohn said that it is an honor to serve as OML Board President.  “The Board is made up of great leaders from across the state and I look forward to working with them as we strive to serve the cities and towns in Oklahoma.  It is comforting to have Past President, Randy Ross, and Vice-President, Kim Peterson by my side as we move forward in new and exciting directions.   OML Executive Director, Mike Fina has assembled an incredible staff and they work tirelessly to provide support to the board and to keep our communities informed of legislative issues or other matters that might affect them.  Mike has brought a new level of leadership and excitement to OML and it is a pleasure to work with him.  It is a privilege to serve with this team of professionals and I know that by working together, we will accomplish great things,” Spohn said.

OML Executive Director, Mike Fina, said that he is very excited about Spohn serving as president and looks forward to working with him.  “JD brings a lot of energy and leadership to our board of directors especially as we continue to navigate through the challenges brought to us by COVID-19,” Fina said. “You only have to look at Ardmore and the incredible progress they have made under JD’s leadership and you know OML has great things in our future.”
