OML’s Community Leadership Development Class 8 holds opening session
The Oklahoma Municipal League’s (OML) Community Leadership Development (CLD) class 8 recently met for their inaugural session in Muskogee.
The session was led by Karen Hill, certified trainer and leadership consultant. The goals of the leadership training focused on identifying each person’s various personality traits and how those impact work environments and those you lead; creating a leadership action plan and learning the art of teamwork without using words.
In addition to leadership training, the class took part in social and community activities. Those included visits to the USS Batfish Submarine and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Cheryl Adams, OML Program Manager and the CLD coordinator said that the City of Muskogee and their partners welcomed the CLD class openly. Persons providing assistance and welcomes to the class included Mayor Janey Boydson, former Mayor and District 1 Transportation Commissioner Bob Coburn, City Councilman Ivory Vann, Ron Boren, Curator, Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, Tim Thompson, OGE Community Affairs Representative and former CLD graduate, and John Cruz, Muskogee Civic Center Director.
According to Adams, there are 26 class members participating in Class 8. Those class members include: A.J. Kirkpatrick, Director of Urban Planning, ADG; Allen E. Colbert-Latham, Grant Administrator, Towns of Boley, Boynton, and Tatums; Carolyn Sanders, Deputy City Clerk, Weatherford; Debra Wimpee, City Councilor, Broken Arrow; Dorene Crook, Sr. Member Services Associate, OMAG; Eric Jones, Electric Superintendent, Wagoner; Ernie Martens, Mayor, Sallisaw, Hank Moore, Economic Development Director, Bethany; Ike Shirley, Chief of Police, Bixby; Jerri Hargis projects & Operations Manager, Oklahoma Water Resources Board; Jim Roberts, EMS Director, Wagoner; John R. Cobb, Administrator, Wellston; Johnna Sue Blair, Wellness Coordinator, TSET healthy Living Program, Wagoner; Karrie Bevan, Utility Clerk, Okeene; Kelly R. Throughout the year, the class will meet a total of six (6) times. The remaining classes will visit Guymon, Broken Arrow, Enid, Norman, and Ardmore. During these sessions, a variety of topics will be discussed, all focusing on enhancing leadership skills.
