The City of Wagoner is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Economic Development Specialist. The Economic Development Specialist will play a crucial role in driving economic growth, attracting investment, and fostering business development within our community.
Responsibilities:
1.Develop and implement strategies to promote economic development and job creation within the city both retail and industrial.
2.Identify opportunities for business expansion, relocation, or startup ventures that align with the community's economic development goals.
3.Cultivate relationships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders to understand their needs and provide support. Identify issues and opportunities relative to existing business and industry
4.Coordinate with government agencies, chambers of commerce, and economic development organizations to leverage resources and support initiatives.
5.Conduct research and analysis on economic trends, market conditions, and industry clusters to inform economic development strategies.
6.Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to secure funding for economic development projects and initiatives.
7.Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and networking events to promote entrepreneurship and business growth.
8.Provide guidance and assistance to businesses navigating regulatory processes, permitting, and licensing requirements.
9.Collaborate with city departments, including Development services, zoning, and public works, to support infrastructure improvements that enhance economic development opportunities.
10.Prepare reports, presentations, and updates for city leadership and stakeholders on economic development activities and outcomes.
11.Fully responsible for the development of downtown projects including the revitalization efforts of assets owned by the City or a City Trust. 
12.Develop marketing material for the promotion of retail and industrial projects.
13.Develop leads based on research for the greater expansion of Wagoner’s retail base. The position will be tied to Wagoner’s ability to increase city sales tax.
14.Maintains awareness and remains current with the latest issues and developments within the field of economic and community development. 
15.Attends and delivers speeches at various professional association conferences, seminars, and meetings and at various community service and civic association organizational meetings. 
16.Attends City Council, Council Committees, or other meetings when required by city leadership. 
17.Reviews all development proposals requesting economic development assistance; meets with developers to discuss said development proposals; and negotiates with said developers regarding the terms and conditions of such development. 
18.Assist in marketing efforts to attract new commercial, industrial and residential development to the city, with a primary focus on job creation.
19.Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for a variety of studies, reports and related information for recommendations and decision-making. 
20.Other tasks as assigned 
Qualifications:
•To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
•Bachelor's degree in related field or combination of experience and education.
•Prior experience in economic development, business consulting, or related fields.
•Knowledge of economic development principles, practices, and strategies.
•Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret economic data and trends.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
•Experience in project management, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and achieve objectives.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
•Demonstrated commitment to community engagement and sustainable development practices.
