EDUCATION:
The ideal candidate will hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Public Administration. Preference will be given to those who have earned a master’s degree in one of these fields.

EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in local government. Experience should include leadership roles involving the oversight of city departments or major municipal projects, as well as a strong record of effective interdepartmental collaboration and operational problem-solving.

BACKGROUND:
Preferred candidates will have prior experience serving as an Assistant City Manager or City Manager, bringing insight into the complexity of
municipal leadership and the ability to navigate both strategic initiatives and day-to-day management.


The Assistant City Manager plays a vital leadership role in the City of McAlester’s municipal government, supporting the City Manager in overseeing city operations and implementing administrative policies. This position supervises key departments and contributes to the development of the overall city budget. Position starts July 1, 2025 or later.

Annual base salary is $120,000 - $130,000 based on qualifications and experience.
